How to find webshop leads: store databases vs. contact databases

How to find webshop leads: store databases vs. contact databases

If you sell to webshops, you've probably wondered which database to buy: Store Leads, BuiltWith, Apollo or something else.

Most people treat these as alternatives. They aren't. There are two different kinds of databases, and you usually need both.

Store databases find the webshops

Store databases like Store Leads, BuiltWith, Wappalyzer and StoreCensus crawl the web and list every online store they can find. For each store you get the website, the platform (like Shopify), the apps it uses, and an estimate of its traffic and sales.

That's perfect for building a list. For example: every Shopify store in Germany that uses Klaviyo.

But what you get is basically a list of links. The contact details are usually a generic info@ address, which goes to customer support, not the person you want to sell to.

Store databases are also cheap, usually $50 to $250 a month. Once you've downloaded the stores in your niche, there's not much reason to keep paying.

Contact databases find the people

Contact databases like Tables, Apollo, ZoomInfo, Wiza and Surfe work the other way around. They know who works at a company, their job title, and their direct email and phone number.

That's what you need to actually reach the founder or head of ecommerce. But contact databases aren't good at finding webshops. They rarely know which platform a store runs on or which apps it uses, and small stores often get lumped in with regular retail.

Use them together

The two fit together through the website domain:

  1. 1Find the stores you want to sell to in a store database, and download the list of domains.
  2. 2Upload the domains to a contact database and find the right person at each store, like the founder or head of ecommerce.
  3. 3Reach out to that person directly with their verified email or phone number.

The store database tells you who to sell to. The contact database tells you how to reach them.

Where Tables fits

Tables is a contact database. Upload your list of store domains, and Tables finds the decision makers with verified emails and phone numbers.
